FAQs

Here are some of the most common FAQs, along with information on sizing, medium, gift vouchers, and tips for taking your own pet portrait.

Other Information

Sizing

Small £140
22.5 x 30cm     boxed stretched canvas
25 x 30cm        canvas board

Medium £170
30 x 40cm         boxed stretched canvas
30 x 40cm         canvas board

Large £200
50x 60cm          boxed stretched canvas

The above boxed stretched canvases are shallow (approx. 1.5cm), so you have the choice of hanging them straight on the wall, or framing.   Deep edge canvases can be an alternative for hanging straight on the wall with no need to frame as they are designed for this purpose.   If you choose canvas board, you will need to get these framed to hang them without damaging the portrait board.

If you have a requirement for a specific size, maybe you have a special place in the house that it needs to fit, I’m happy to source more individually sized canvases.

Medium

I typically paint my portraits in Acrylic as the drying time is reduced so less time to wait for your portrait.  I do paint in oils too, however, these can take many weeks to fully dry, so it depends upon your requirements.  There’s no price difference on your chosen medium.

Framing

I have a local framer who is very reasonable.  If you want your portrait framed but don’t have the time to organise this, I’m happy to get a quote for you, based on your requirements.   My framer will even dye your frame if you need a specific colour to match your home decor.

Gift Vouchers

If you would like to purchase a furry face portrait for a friend or relative but you want it to be a surprise, you can purchase a gift voucher. You can part pay towards a portrait or pay the full amount. Gift Vouchers start from £30. I can send the voucher to you so that you can give it personally or I can send the voucher via the post to the recipient.  Then when they are ready to engage with me, they can simply drop me an email and we can start the process. It’s a great gift for Birthdays, Anniversaries or Christmas, or just because you love someone and their furry friend.

Prices

Small £140
Medium £170
Large £200.

For deep edge canvases prices will be slightly higher. We can discuss this along with your individual requirements.

Postage: Shipping costs will be quoted based upon your requirements, ie size of Portrait, a framed portrait will cost more. If I’m shipping aboard, I will obtain a quote for you. I typically use parcel force for shipping.

Payment can be made by cheque or directly into my bank account. I ask for a 25% non-refundable deposit before I start work to cover the cost of materials.  The balance is then due upon completion and before shipment.

Tips for taking your own photos for your pet portrait

If you live locally to me, I would be happy to meet with you and your pet to take photo‘s. If that is not possible, I can arrange for us set up a Zoom, FaceTime, or WhatsApp video as this works well and enables us to discuss your requirements too. It’s also a good opportunity for me to get a feel for your pet’s personality.

Good, clear images of your pet will help me achieve the best results for your pet portrait, as I paint what I can see.  Good photos enable me to focus in and see the details that gives your pet its distinctive look, such as the texture of the fur, the colour and detail of the eyes, etc.

I ask that you send me at least 3 images and indicate to me which one represents the truest colour of your pet, as depending upon the light at the time the photograph was taken, this can change quite a lot.

Please consider the following when taking photos of your pet for their portrait:

  • Daylight photos are best, as those taken under artificial light will reflect more yellow and distort the true nature of the colour of the fur.
  • Try to take photos outside in the daylight so that flash isn’t necessary.  Using flash can produce Red Eye in your photos.
  • If it’s a sunny day, take photos with your back to the sun.   A very sunny day may cast shadows, so best to avoid these.
  • Get down to your pet’s eye level so that you are looking into their face.   Don’t take photos looking down on your pet from above, as this won’t give you the best perspective for your pet’s portrait.
  • At least one photo in close-up, whilst still in focus, of your pet’s face will help me see the detail of the fur and your pet’s markings.  It will all help me to ensure a true representation for your portrait.
